We are offering a half day SUP technical skills course for Leaders in Scouting wishing to add SUP at B1 to an existing Adventurous Activity Permit that they may hold for Kayak or Raft. This course will not teach you how to paddle a SUP as you are expected to be able to do this already, instead we cover group management and safety considerations that a permit holder should be conversant with when leading a  SUP activity as this varies to managing a Raft, Kayak or Canoe activity for which you may already be familiar.

On the course you will be expected to take an active involvment in group discussions so that the course instructor can make an assesment of your experience and skills in delivering a safe activity, they will then be able to forward their reccomendation of your performance when sought by your Permit Assessor.

Prerequisites

Candidates need to have applied or be close to obtaining an Adventurous Activity Permit for a paddlesports discipline or already hold a permit in Canoe, Kayak or Raft.

Qualifications

On successful completion of the course to a suitable standard, and having gained some experience delivering SUP activitities, candidates should be sufficiently qualified and experienced to  apply for a “Scout Adventurous Activity Permit for SUP”. The permit will be a Leadership Permit and restricted to Class C & B1 water. Further restrictions may be applied based on individual skills and experience in leading such activities.
