We are offering a half day traditional rafting and coracle permit course for Leaders in Scouting wishing to add Rafting and Coracles at B1 to an existing Adventurous Activity Permit that they may hold for Canoe, Kayak or SUP. This course will not teach you how to build a raft as you are expected to be able to do this already, instead we cover group management and safety considerations that a permit holder should be conversant with when leading a rafting activity.

CST also has 12 Coracles and within POR, Coracles can be combined with a Rafting Permit. The final part of this course will include a session in Coracles and we cover safety considerations and rescues associated with Coracle use.

On the course you will be expected to take an active involvment in group discussions so that the course instructor can make an assesment of your experience and skills in delivering a safe activity, they will then be able to forward their reccomendation when sought to your Permit Assessor.

Prerequisites

Candidates need to have applied or be close to obtaining an adventurous Activity Permit for a paddlesports discipline or already hold a permit in Canoe, Kayak or SUP.

Qualifications

On successful completion of the course to a suitable standard, and having gained some experience delivering rafting and coracle activitities, candidates should be sufficiently qualified and experienced to  apply for a “Scout Adventurous Activity Permit for Rafting and Coracles”. The permit will be a Leadership Permit and restricted to Class C & B1 water. Further restrictions may be applied based on individual skills and experience in leading such activities.
