-->Our second Youth Polo Event is open to any youth organisation that wishes to enter a team particularly focussing on teenagers in the 14-18 year age range. A team is five players, with two reserves.
Each paddler is required to have confidence in paddling a closed cockpit kayak and be conversant with the use of a spraydeck, as without a spraydeck a polo kayak becomes quickly swamped. Confidence means they should be able to paddle backwards, forwards and sideways and be able to turn they way they want to go, they should have capsized wearing a spraydeck and be confident exiting a capsized boat.
Each player is required to be water confident and to be able to swim 25 meters should the need arise.
The Competition is a fun opportunity for young people to be safely introduced to the exhilarating sport of kayak polo using competition kayaks in a friendly and safe environment.
With ten teams playing it will be necessary to run two heats, with each team playing four others before semi-finals and finals are played. Games will be one half of 8 minutes duration. It is hoped to achieve about six games an hour.
There will be opportunities when not playing for players to paddle the lake and practice skills under supervision.
The competition will take place at the Nomad Kayak Clubs facility on Bury Lake Young between 12 noon and 6pm on Saturday 13th July 2024. A full set of joining instructions and competition rules will be supplied following receipt of your team entry.
Because of the early start, each player is required to bring their own packed lunch, we will supply hot and cold drinks and something hot like a dog roll around 4pm. Colleagues and others are welcome to come along and cheer their teams and bring folding camp chairs on which to sit if they wish.
With places limited to 10 teams, be sure to make your team entry early to avoid disappointment. Team Entry is £75.
Note that bookings for this event open on 1st of April and close two weeks before the event on the 29th June.
