Youth Polo Competition (U16) using Sit on Tops (649)

Our Youth Polo Competition is open to any youth organisation or school with particular focus on the 10-15 age range. A team is four players, with one or two reserves with each paddler required to have confidence in paddling a Sit on Top (SoT) Kayak. This means they should be able to paddle backwards, forwards and sideways and be able to turn they way they want to go, they should have capsized before and be happy climbing back on board. 

The Competition is a fun opportunity for young people to be safely introduced to the exhilarating sport of kayak polo using familiar craft in a friendly and safe environment.

A maximum of six teams will play in this event, with teams getting to play each of the other 5 teams during the afternoon. Games will be one half of 8 minutes duration. Parents and others are welcome to come along and cheer their teams if they wish.

There will be opportunities when not playing for players to paddle on the lake and practice skills under supervision.

The use of polo kayaks require paddlers with improved skills who are conversant with spraydeck use, as capsizes are frequent and can slow games down, playing in Sit on Top Kayaks minimises complications associated with capsizing and recovery, though we still require each player nto be water confident and to be able to swim 25 meters should the need arise.

This competition will take place at the Nomad Kayak Clubs facility on Bury Lake Young between 12 noon and 6pm on Saturday 20th June. A full set of joining instructions will be supplied following receipt of your team entry.

Because of the early start, each player is required to bring their own packed lunch, we will supply hot and cold drinks and something hot like a dog roll around 4pm. 

With places limited to 6 teams, be sure to make your team entry early to avoid disappointment. Team Entry is £75 (that’s £15 a player).
