Core Coach Award

The Coach Awards are designed for people whose core function is to coach paddlers who want to gain/improve paddlesport skills within a chosen discipline. This will include coaching beginners new to the sport, or paddlers looking to develop their skills in the given discipline/environment.

Whilst the Paddlesport Instructor is a bums on seats qualification where the Instructor tends to supervise sessions with the emphasis on having a fun and safe session, with games used to acquire basic skills, the Core Coach steps the techniques up a bit, with specific teaching of skills to make better paddlers.

Anyone completing the course needs to complete two parts of training, and a one day assessment.

Part 1 is the basic core coach, a two day course run over a weekend, teaching you the fundamentals of “how” to teach people paddlesports. Costing £200, the course takes place on the 7^th and 8^th June 2025.

Part 2 of the course is discipline specific and teaches you “what” associated with up to 22 different paddling disciplines such as polo, whitewater, slalom, freestyle. The course being offered is sheltered water canoe and kayak specific to enhance the repertoire of local coaches teaching on local canals, slow moving rivers and lakes. Thie discipline specific course is also a full weekend at £200, taking place on the 5^th to 6^th July.

The assessment takes place not before you are ready to complete the assessment and must be completed with a second candidate, the assessment will be completed in a single day and each candidate will need a minimum of 4 students to work with during the assessment. The assessment charge is £125 per person that includes all Paddle UK fees.  Candidates need to be a minimum of 18 years old at the date of the assessment.

Bookings for this course close 4 weeks before the course start date, allowing us time to process Paddle UK paperwork.
