Managed Group Leaders Day – Saturday 28th March 2026 (601)
Following on from the success of our leaders update and basic training days run in recent years, this year we turn our focus towards all group leaders who deliver their own activities by providing specific familiarisation to ensure everyone operating from BLYM, is aligned to adopting good practices when delivering paddlesports.
The success of CST has allowed us to increase bums on seats capacity to 164 deploying six different craft types, with attendances in 2024 peaking at over 100 on 8 seperate evenings and over 64 not uncommon numbers for daytime school visitors, groups siometimes experience difficulty competing for limited facilities.

To overcome congestion both on shore and afloat, we have needed to identify better methods of operating with multiple groups on site at the same time, better managing shore facilities, launch facilities and water space.
During the course, sessions will focus on improved group management, aligning leaders with CSTs and BLYMs standard operating proceedures and providing a forum for sharing ideas and proven best practices with the aim of helping leaders deliver a quality paddlesport experience, whilst being familiar and able deal with situations that might occur.
Leaders from any youth organisation (Scouts, Guides, Youth clubs and Schools) that either delivered or assisted others in delivering activities in 2024 should be attending this course.
Workshops will run through the day, with drinks available during breaks and a CST provided BBQ lunch, with shore based sessions including: New kit familiarisation; Meet and greet best practices; Best knots for raft builders; Managing a dry change /wet change; Shore based warm ups; Maximising water time in a 90 minute session
Wet sessions include; How to master the Coracle; Dragonboat capsize drill; Launching 32 SOTs in 3 minute; Proven paddlesport games; Bribery methods to disembark quickly; The all-in rescue
With lunch provided, please bring your own named mug and your paddling gear.
