Our dragon boat training course has been created to provide an opportunity for a team of dragon boat novices to become profficient in handling and racing a dragon boat. Novices could be a group of Scouts, a school class, a sport club team, a family group or just a bunch of friends.
The two hour course teaches your team of 10 people (minimum 10 years old) how to work together to achieve an efficient paddling technique so that you are well placed to race a dragon boat with a level of competance. Each course is delivered by a Paddlesport Coach and an Instructor helm (steerer).

Having completed this training, teams will be eligible to enter our 2026 Dragon Boat Series Competition as a competant team entrant.
During the course you will learn the basics of where to sit to balence and trim the boat ensuring an efficient passaage over the water, basic helm commands, timing, easy paddle strokes, racing paddling efficiency, stopping the boat and rythem that assures the most bang for your buck when achieving maximum efficiency at speed.
You will take part in a number of short 250m races, to further improve the efficiency of your paddling technique before having a go on our 1km circuit against which all 2026 series races are judged.

Teams times will be recorded on our 2026 Wall of Fame with the end of season winners being awarded the coveted Bury Lake DB Race Trophy.
Dragon boat racing is one of the most exciting, competitive team sports you can take part in on water and is one of the fastest growing internationally recognised water sports.
Note that this course is a fixed price for a team of ten participants and we have capacity to accommodate up to two groups of ten at any one time.
